There is beauty in simplicity

Musical Seahorse
Ink and pencil

It's time for another Wicked Wednesday challenge!  This week's theme: Black and White

My inspiration this week comes from music.  It is both spiritual and physical therapy for me.  My guitar instructor, Sal provides great support and motivation as I continue to maintain strength and agility.  Diana, my flute and piano instructor, is also a great source of motivation for me.  THANKS GUYS!!!!

For those who are not familiar with music theory, my seahorse is built with bass clefs and one treble clef for its body.  A whole note gives it sight.
I hope you like this piece just as much as I enjoyed creating it.  Thanks for stopping by!

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

P.S. inserting shameless promotion here: check out Sal's music over at Mazzard Effect

Feeling Blue

Why, oh why?!
Actually, I'm fine you guys.  I've just been focusing on learning a certain musical style.  You guessed it, the Blues.  I've heard it a million times over from Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy and BB King.  But it's just recently I've gained a new perspective and greater appreciation for this style.
By the way, I definitely recommend that you check out Hugh Laurie's debut album.  He's quite the blues man. Talented actor AND musician.
Anyway, have a great weekend.  I'm off to continue my quest for musical perfection....and world domination, whichever comes first ;)
Oh, be on the look out for a post on my recent commission, coming soon!

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Musical Phoenix

The Passion of Music; created on Sumo Paint
I've always loved the shape of the treble clef.  I was mindlessly doodling today.  If you tilted your head and squinted, they look like little birds.  Or maybe it's sleep deprivation.  Whatever the case may be, I thanked my muse and ran with it.  It makes sense to me, birds have the natural gift of song :)
Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Simplicity

Remember when you were little and making a mess was fun?  Actually it was one of your duties as a carefree kid.  Then at some point, we lose that innocence and we grow up.  This was me trying to reconnect with my inner kid.  I had left over india ink.  I didn't even bother using a pen nib or brush.  I just dunked my fingers right in!
Yes, it almost always comes back to music.  It has and always will be my first love.  It's what got me through tough times and reminds me of the good times.

Take a moment and do something silly. Reconnect with that inner child of yours, it's good for the soul

Peace and love,
Mary xoxo

Music hurts....sometimes

Yuki no Sakura
Cherry Blossom in the snow
I had to take a break from my guitar...Firework isn't sounding so fireworky?  More like a wet firework that won't ignite at the moment.  So, instead of getting frustrated I gave my poor left hand a rest(fingertips are burning, tendons are on strike from barre chords...curse you small hands!) and did a quick doodle. This is the end result. (good thing I'm not a lefty...)
I've been getting reacquainted with my alter Japanese ego.  Say "moshi moshi" to Yuki and her kitty.  She looks kind of sad, doesn't she?  I guess my feelings came through on my sketch.  But I am NOT going to give up.
I'm going to go ice my fingers now and tomorrow will be another opportunity to rock out. but for now, oyasumi nasai and sweet dreams!

Disclaimer: The undertaking of practicing the guitar today for 45 minutes straight was done of my own free will.  No serious injuries or damages were sustained and my senseii had NOTHING to do with it. That is all.

Music therapy

"Moonshine" painting on Sumo Paint
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Art is my biggest outlet.  But Music is never far behind.  When things get rough and are spinning out of control, I take a moment.  Actually, several moments; enough for the duration of my "go-to" song, Moonshine.  This song was written by my music teacher and it's musical valium to me.  It is six minutes and thirty nine seconds of pure serenity.  I get six minutes and thirty nine seconds to reboot and regain my perspective.  Then I can face whatever lies ahead.  You want to see what I mean? Go and click on Sal's Music and find out. You can thank me later :)

I've also done a previous piece based on this song:
Moonshine from Le Beau Reve 3/2010

The beauty of art and music...there is no right or wrong.  It means what it means, to you.
